VI.3) Additional information
UK Biocentre requires a provider to configure, customise and manufacture arrays that will generate genotype data on the DNA samples from at least 60 000 volunteers within 3 months of the provision of the final batches of DNA samples. The provider will carry out all of the genotyping of these samples and provide ‘called genotypes’ to the NIHR BioResource data scientists (raw intensity data may also be required by the researchers). For clarity, we consider ‘called genotypes’ to be the confident assignment of alleles at each position, properly controlling for artefacts resulting from such factors as edge effects, batch variation etc., in a form suitable for haplotype phasing and imputation.
UK Biocentre also seeks to work with credible providers to establish a significant genotyping capacity in NIHR-NBC. For clarity, this would mean the capacity to genotype between 50 - 100 000 samples per year in the first instance and provide high-quality called genotypes to researchers.
NIHR-NBC would be interested to see the development of the price per sample if the total amount of funds to be committed would be 2 000 000 GBP, 3 000 000 GBP, 4 000 000 GBP or 5 000 000 GBP.
