Description of the goods or services required

This tender is for 2 English-language and 2 Welsh-language titles to be published in early 2018.

The aim of Quick Reads, coordinated by the Welsh Books Council and supported by the Welsh Government, is to encourage people to look afresh at reading through entertaining, fun and short books.

The production of four titles, each between 15,000 and 20,000 words and no longer than 128 pages, will be required. The books will follow the same format and layout as the previously published titles in the series, as regard type size, the number of words on the page etc.

The series has specific guidelines as regard content and language levels; therefore the Council will provide the services of a language editor who will be responsible for ensuring that the language levels used are suitable for the target audience. The content would need to be suitable for an age range of 14 years and upwards.

Total quantity or scope of tender

The production of four titles, each between 15,000 and 20,000 words and no longer than 128 pages, will be required. The books will follow the same format and layout as the previously published titles in the series, as regards type size, the number of words on the page etc.

The books will retail at £1 each, and a discount of 50% should be allowed for the Welsh Books Council’s Distribution Centre.

A minimum print run of 2,000 copies will be required. The Publisher will agree to keep the books in print for three years without further grant aid, unless the Council and the Publisher agree otherwise.
