Abstract

Wales and West Utilities (“WWU”) currently operates 78 1,5 tonne mini-excavators, all currently of JCB manufacture. Every machine is provided with a trailer and an hydraulic breaker, in addition to three buckets. This fleet is anticipated to grow a little in the foreseeable future.

In recent years mini-excavator trailers have been of industry-standard types, where the excavator is loaded via a hinged ramp and mechanically restrained on the trailer via the tracks and boom.

There is now a requirement for a revised design, which will enable the operator to load the excavator in full accordance with the machine manufacturer’s instructions, whilst also eliminating manual handling of the breaker and other attachments. A revised design that delivers a reduced unladen weight will offer a better margin of compliance.

Please note that this requirement is for the purchase or modification of existing trailers, hire proposals will not be considered.
