Abstract

The contractor for contract No ECMWF/COPERNICUS/2019/C3S_429h_Meteotest will create a browser based web application with global coverage to make climate change more perceivable. The web application is coupled with a statistical algorithm, which can identify regions or locations which experience by today statistically similar climatic conditions as it will occur at a selected location in the future (climatic analogues). The web application will be developed with a strong focus on design, data visualization, usability and user experience to attract a broad audience.

The contractor for contract No ECMWF/COPERNICUS/2019/C3S_429i_ISARD will exploit data available in ECMWF’s Climate Data Store (CDS) to communicate how thermal stress is evolving under climate change conditions. The contractor proposes a Story Hub for the communication of insights related to thermal stress/comfort, relevant to different fields (urbanism, energy, health, leisure, migration), aiming at wide swaths of the population, and creating fact-based and engaging experiences.

The contractor for contract No ECMWF/COPERNICUS/2019/C3S_429j_CYI will produce a C3S infrastructure enabled demo case of a prognostic climate-driven vector-borne-disease risk assessment online platform, by exploiting the potential of the C3S infrastructure, including the diverse set of datasets in the CDS catalogue and the CDS toolbox. The underlying objectives are to:

(i) enable planning effective management strategies, and minimise health impacts from future disease outbreaks;

(ii) highlight and exploit the environmental dependency of vectors, such as mosquitoes, sand flies, and ticks through a CDS data-driven, and predictive online mapping resource. The VeCTOR demo case will be provided as a service to scientific experts, decision- and policy-makers, and to the public through identified citizen-scientist initiatives.

The contractor for contract No ECMWF/COPERNICUS/2019/C3S_429k_TCDF will create a climate hazards data set of reference for physical risk assessment, specifically designed for the Task Force on Climate-related Disclosures (TFCD), which was launched in 2015 to provide a reporting framework for both physical climate and transition financial impacts. This application is requested, and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and the Centre for International Climate Research (CICERO). The UNEP FI will include us into their initiatives, connect the contractor with financial institutions and promote the final data set. The CICERO will share findings and data generation of the ClimInvest project to co-develop the data set.

The contractor for contract No ECMWF/COPERNICUS/2019/C3S_429l_EOX will develop a service using Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) data through the Climate Data Store (CDS) to bring climate related information to cotton supply chain Enterprise Resource Planning systems. Together with the champion user Sustainabill, who is a leader in the transparent supply chain business, EOXPLORE and Terranea will develop a service to connect to the CDS and produce climate related information relevant to the cotton production industry.

II.1.4) Short description

This invitation to tender (ITT) aimed at demonstrating the full potential of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) infrastructure, including the diverse set of datasets in the Climate Data Store (CDS) catalogue and the CDS toolbox, by setting up and demonstrating downstream applications, using one or more of the C3S products as input. These contracts would facilitate the creation of indicators, tools and visualisations that do not necessarily have a sustainable business case, but are excellent communication tools and will show-case the CDS and, hence, increase uptake.

This contract award notice lists the contractors for the final Round 4 of the ITT.
