The Merseyrail network is a 3rd rail network and there is a limit on how many trains can be stabled and operated without affecting the day to day service of the operation. On time removal of the existing fleet is essential as new units will be arriving on a frequent basis. For information the network capacity has been capped at 68 units (existing and new).
