All reusable medical devices used in acute settings across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CVUHB) are reprocessed in a Medical Device Directive accredited facility, these services for the CVUHB are provided by the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (HSDU) and Sterile Services Unit (SSU) departments. It is essential that both units and their associated equipment is cleaned, maintained, calibrated and tested on a regular basis.

Audere Medical Services has previously provided the vast majority of services to the health board via a formal contract undertaken by the NHS Supply Chain Maintenance Framework, which covers the maintenance element only and not include parts and labour. All works to be undertaking by ISO 9001:2015 UKAS accredited contractor. SGS certificate issued by an International Accreditation Forum. Contractor registered with SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement) and only genuine manufacturer’s parts to be supplied for all servicing and / or completing breakdowns. Equipment reliability can be seriously affected by using non OEM parts.

CVUHB made the decision to undertake their own tender exercise for a three year contract with one plus one year extension options (5 year total period) which closed 4th March 2022. During the evaluation it was clear that there were some gaps which requires the health board to retender and extend the current arrangement to allow time for this process to take place.
