Outsourcing of Ophthalmic surgical procedures (Cataracts), Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) requires an outsourced provision for Ophthalmic surgical procedures (Cataracts) including outpatient, diagnostic and follow up activity. The aim of this contract focuses upon ensuring SBUHB achieve Ministerial Targets to support reduction in waiting list initiatives (WLI). Associated with long waiting patients.

II.2.4) Description of the procurement
Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) will enter into a contract with SpaMedica via direct award under the Framework (Framework Agreement Ref: ITT_96139 - ITT_98956 / PRO-OJEULT-50776) Agreement for Outsourcing of Clinical, Surgical & Diagnostic Services
One of the primary objectives of the commissioning Health Board (SBUHB) is to provide patient care as near to the patient's residence as possible. A radius of approximately 10 miles from the Health Board border is considered a maximum reasonable range for the provider facility.
The key objectives of the service are:
- To ensure the provision of safe and effective cataract service provision to NHS patients
- To free up outpatient and primary eye care capacity for patients at higher risk of sight loss.
- SpaMedica are a familiar provider that can support the delivery of additional Cataracts activity, ensuring patients are seen within appropriate wait times.
Without access to an outsourced solution, Swansea Bay University Health Board are currently at risk of under delivery of activity, which will have a significant impact to patient’s health
Expected service start date will be immediately in May 2025.
