Ring Ouzel Surveys, Nant Ffrancon 2026-2028

Description of the goods or services required

The Ring Ouzel is red-listed on the British and Welsh Birds of Conservation Concern due to long term declines in breeding population and range. This species is of particular interest to the National Trust and our partners in Nant Ffrancon as an indicator species of a mosaic of habitats in good condition. We have some survey data from April-May 2026 and require further surveys to complete a baseline of Ring Ouzel in Nant Ffrancon. This will be undertaken in the breeding season of 2026, with follow up surveys in 2027 and 2028. This contract will start in June 2026, and the final report will be required by end of September 2026, with follow up reports in 2027 and 2028. We also require several training and engagement events to be delivered in Nant Ffrancon to raise awareness about this species and wider conservation work. Total quantity or scope of tender

This contract will include a survey of 6 tetrads within Nant Ffrancon to estimate the breeding population, along with habitat suitability. In addition, a focussed study of several territories within the project area is required to increase our understanding of Ring Ouzel habitat-use within breeding territories. 3 Conditions for Participation

3.1

Minimum standards and qualification required

Previous experience in ecological monitoring and bird surveying in a challenging upland landscape.

Previous experience of Ring Ouzel breeding surveys

A good knowledge of the Nant Ffrancon landscape and the ecological significance of this area.

Experience of running engagement and training events with people working in conservation, and with the wider public.

Availability to complete the baseline survey within the 2026 breeding season.

Public Liability and Employers Liability Insurance to a value of £5million
