Abstract

Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) requires a contractor to store and manage approximately 100 km of uncoilable subsea electric cable of various sizes and voltages. These cables will be used as stock for planned projects and lengths will be called- off from stock on a planned project by project basis. The collection call-offs are likely to be twice per year plus additional unplanned repair requirements, thus requiring easy access to stock for regular collections and restocking. The contractor will be responsible for all movement/unloading/loading and packing/unpacking activities at the storage site and quayside.

The standard sizes and types of cables to be stored are:

— 95 mm 11 kV copper double wire armoured cable,

— 95 mm 33 kV copper double wire armoured cable,

— 185 mm 33 kV copper double wire armoured cable,

— 300 mm 33 kV copper double wire armoured cable,

— 400 mm 33 kV copper double wire armoured cable.

SHEPD also requires a Contractor to receive and safely store a stock of accessories for use on subsea electric cable projects.

A sample of items to be stored are listed below:

— marine cable repair joints,

— onshore transition joints,

— abandonment kits and other cable caps,

— armour clamps and break out kits,

— cable pulling heads,

— fibre chambers and lids,

— fibre splice enclosures and sundries,

— earthing materials (wire, rods and clamps, etc).

SHEPD also requires a contractor to safely and securely manage the held stock of cable and accessories, test and record results for use and reference by the employer and its other contractors.
