Explanation
The University has a 5-year contract with Equinix for data centre services (space, power, networking, etc.) at Joule House in Manchester. This houses ‘corporate functions’ such as finance functions (Oracle), email and Lynx, some research projects and also network connections to external functions such as CERN, JANET and cloud hosting providers such as AWS and Microsoft.
Joule is connected by a dedicated fibre link to the University and the other data centre (Reynolds House).
There is a preference for a shorter-term contract to continue the existing supplies while the strategy for providing the functions hosted there is finalised and implemented.
