Description of the contract
Contract Overview
Welsh Government (WG) funding has been allocated to the North East Wales (NEW) Regional Cohesion Team at Wrexham County Borough Council, for the purpose of organising, facilitating and/or promoting community cohesion projects in Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire. The remit of these projects is to:
a) develop sustainable cohesive practices to engage with minority groups and support them to be welcome, included and involved in their local community
b) facilitate sustainable partnerships between third sector providers supporting minority groups, who utilise cohesive cross cutting strategies to achieve shared aims and outcomes
The NEW Regional Cohesion Team has responded to this remit by developing the #NEWConnections initiative. This encompasses the following projects:
1) Sharing Stories: A social network facilitating and recording positive interactions between minority groups, for the purpose of celebrating community diversity and identifying shared values
2) Celebrating Cohesive Communities: A series of grants funded projects facilitating partnership working between third sector providers, commencing with an interactive workshop on 09/09/20
To record and showcase these projects, the NEW Regional Cohesion Team would like to commission a 3 minute short film entitled “Diverse, not Different: Making #NEWConnections in North Wales”.
The film will feature the following:
1) A short written narrative (with accompanying pictures and video clips) introducing the #NEWConnections initiative, and the importance of helping people to feel connected to their community during the COVID-19 pandemic
2) A compilation of personal testimonies from groups and individuals who have participated in Sharing Stories, reflecting on what they have learned (and enjoyed) by interacting with people from diverse backgrounds
3) A collective speech, editing together contributions from everyone involved with #NEWConnections (and other supporting community representatives in North Wales). This speech will celebrate the diversity of our communities in North Wales, and recognise that “diverse” does not mean “different”: all the traditions, beliefs and identities in our culture add vibrancy and variety, but this diversity is founded upon solidarity – a solidarity based on shared values that make North Wales a place where everyone can belong.
This film will be submitted for approval by February 8th, 2021, and published on social media via the local authority platforms for Wrexham County Borough Council, Denbighshire County Council and Flintshire County Council on February 26th, 2021.
