Abstract
This specification has been produced as part of an initiative known as AEMRI (Advanced Engineering Materials Research Institute), which is funded by the Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) using European Regional Development Funds (ERDF). AEMRI seeks to create a unique facility housing a critical mass of equipment, expertise and resources. AEMRI provides an environment to test and prove the limits of performance of advanced materials. Through the use of advanced modelling and simulation methods, full, large-scale mechanical test structures will be designed and built upon finite element analysis (FEA) calculations. Advanced, automated non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques will be developed with the aim of saving the industry time and production costs as well as minimising the risk of catastrophic structural failures.
X-ray CT is a non-destructive method for observing the interior volume of objects in three dimensions. TWI makes extensive use of Computer Tomography (CT) inspection as part of its X-ray inspection services to its clients. The already considerable investment in TWI’s existing X-ray inspection equipment means that it is able to provide useful X-ray inspection services to the benefit of industry and academia. TWI currently employ three microfocus CT systems, a 225kV system, a 240kV system and a 450kV system.
To enhance TWI’s radiographic inspection and research capabilities, TWI have a requirement for a further X-ray Computed Tomography inspection system. This system is to be supplied with its own enclosure and offer at least 450kV capability, with a 100µm or less focal spot size. Such a system will allow TWI to actively engage in industry-lead research projects in the deployment of CT for the inspection of advanced materials and complex components.
Please be advised that TWI are happy to receive tenders offering refurbished or ex-demo equipment providing they meet all necessary requirements.
