Abstract

RSPB Cymru is looking to appoint a contractor to deliver peatland restoration works on a privately owned site, south of Llangollen. The site is part of the Berwyn SSSI, SPA, and SAC, and is designated in part for blanket bog habitats. The contractor will be working to raise water tables across the blanket bog by blocking drainage ditches, gullies, and peat pipes with peat dams, reprofiling hags, and constructing low contour bunds. The most common repair required is repairing peat dams. Historic management has meant the site is extremely heather dominated. Therefore, a contractor who is careful and methodical is required to ensure all features are blocked in the area of works for this winter.
