Abstract

Provide a public mortuary within the Coroner's jurisdictional area where bodies can be stored and accessed as is deemed appropriate for the effective running of the Coroners service. The mortuary should be appropriately equipped and able to meet anticipated demand.

Included in the provision of the above is the provision of a reliable and timely body transportation service between Stepping Hill Hospital and Tameside General Hospital or another location as required by the Coroner. It is essential that bodies be transported as a result of an instruction that is issued up to 16:00 Mon-Fri, to ensure post mortems can be completed in a timely manner.

The contract is intended to last 2 years.

Justification for selected award procedure:

No tenders or no suitable tenders/requests to participate in response to open procedure

Explanation

The Council ran a competition for Mortuary and Autopsy Related Services in late 2016 to which no responses were received. A Soft Market Test was undertaken earlier this year related to the same requirements where no suitable responses were received.

As incumbent providers of Mortuary Services, Stepping Hill was approached under Regulation 32 of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 for the award of contract to which the previous VEAT and this Contract Award Notice relates.
