The auditory and visual systems of dogs and humans have been shown to differ in a number of key ways. However, little is currently known about how the differences identified could affect dogs’ perception and responses to specific light and sound stimuli. It is important to establish if certain stimuli or environments could cause working dogs to react differently to people because of their sensory differences. Three different topic areas of interest have been identified for further investigation. Acoustic startle visual adaptation to light conditions flickering/strobing light.
