“Scarred by the conflicts of the past, yet immortalised in history and literature, Flint Castle stands sentinel-like on the estuary’s shore, its walls resonating with stories of the power of one king and the submission of another.”
1. Introduction
Curatorial Project Mangers Addo, and Flintshire County Council, in partnership with Cadw and a range of local partners are inviting applications from experienced artists to produce an ‘Iconic’ artwork to be situated on the Flint Foreshore , as part of the wider regeneration of this unique and compelling landscape. The Flint Foreshore Regeneration Project seeks to develop a new modern innovative community hub adjacent to the castle site that will encompass football, rugby and social club facilities , visitor centre and Lifeboat Station.
The artwork will have a symbiotic relationship with the castle and must be inspiring and meaningful. Therefore the materials used should be sympathetic and not distract from the historic environment and beauty of the Dee Estuary.
We are interested in applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to immerse themselves in the life and culture of the area and embrace the opportunity to work with local groups, communities, businesses and the wider regeneration project team (including foreshore development architects) as an integral part of their practice.
