This is a directly awarded contract on behalf of NHS Wales to meet the additional demands placed upon it during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Covid-19 is a serious illness and its consequences are life threatening. NHS Wales has sought point of care (POCT) testing to assist NHS Wales in the rapid identification of positive Covid-19 cases and to identify those with antibodies.
Due to the extreme urgency of the situation including intense global demand for the same products and the onset of a second wave of the disease, it was necessary for NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership to make a Direct Award for the items covered by this Contract Award notice. This situation is provided for under Regulation 32 (2) (C) of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 ('Direct Award due to reasons of extreme urgency').
