Abstract

There are many factors which influence flock performance. Some of these are outside the farmers control but the ones within the farmers control can have a massive effect on the profitability of the flock. To support the red meat sector to harness these factors, Farming Connect developed 12 sheep discussion groups across Wales in 2020. Over the last 18 months we have worked with the groups to gather data, share knowledge and best practice and identify KPI’s. The groups have all had 8 meetings on a range of topics, see below: 1. Meeting 1 Preparing for Tupping - Time Frame – Late August 2020 2. Meeting 2 Setting KPI’s and Data Recording – Time Frame – Sept/Oct 3. Meeting 3 Nutrition for Lambing – Time Frame – December 2020 4. Meeting 4 Preparing for Lambing – Time Frame – January 2021 5. Meeting 5 – Managing the Growing Lamb – Time Frame – April 2021 6. Meeting 6 Weaning Management – Time Frame – July 2021 7. Meeting 7 Review Performance Using KPI’s Time Frame – Oct 2021 8. Meeting 8 Nutrition pre lambing – Time Frame – December 2021 Due to the Farming Connect Programme being extended we have the opportunity to extend the work with these groups for a further 6 meetings.
