Introduction Our Picturesque Landscape is a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Landscape Partnership Scheme which centres on the landscape of the Dee Valley and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site. It takes as its theme the inspirational journeys that have and continue to be a feature of the area which is cut by the canal, Telford’s A5 and the River Dee. Visitors have drawn inspiration from this beautiful Valley in art and poetry since the 18th century and it continues to draw tourists in search of the sublime. This is a landscape that is under extreme pressure with high numbers of visitors drawn to what are often our most fragile sites. The communities on its doorstep, born from the industrial endeavours that shaped it, are now less connected to the benefits the landscape offers. The project will invest in the resilience of key visitor sites and engage communities in its appreciation and management while reinterpreting this rich landscape for a new generation. This brief comprises Phase One of the Our Picturesque Landscape (OPL) Interpretation project. Aim Using the OPL Interpretation Action Plan Final Report, already written, implement a strategic approach to interpreting the key themes of the OPL project through attractive and inspiring on site interpretation at key sites within the World Heritage Site area. The interpretation will draw from the WHS brand tool kit and imagery in order to ensure consistent style. Objectives & Outcomes To create series of site specific interpretation based on the Interpretation Action Plan and using the WHS branding tool kit and OPL brand imagery at key sites along the WHS to tie the 11 miles together and promote the remainder of the site. The interpretation will be designed, manufactured and installed and all tied in together with a similar style.
