Abstract

The Drill Hall in Chepstow requires a like for like replacement roof. Funding has been sought through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund however there is a short timescale to tender, appoint and complete the work by 31.3.24. The current roof has numerous leaks and has been patch repaired. The structure is not Listed but stands within a Conservation Area. The slate roof covering to the main pitched roof is in the region of 100-150 years old and may be original to the construction of the property. The slates have been sealed externally with a mastic sealant in order to prolong their life, and that the slates are fixed to battens which in turn are fixed to timber boarding directly onto the steel-framed roof structure, with no intermediate layer of under-felt.
