To complete an access and structural survey of pedestrian and active travel routes in the Corsydd Calon Môn project area. Exploring opportunities to extend circular routes, overlaps with existing routes (e.g. Lôn Las Cefni and Coastal Path) with routes on and between the 3 main fens in our project area (Cors Goch, Cors Erddreiniog and Cors Bodeilio).
Exploring links with landmark geographical features within the CCM “catchment” (e.g. Llyn Cefni and Mynydd Bodafon); other fenland or wetland sites (e.g. Waun Eurad and Cors Ddyga); as well as population centres (e.g. Benllech, Pentraeth and Moelfre).
Creating a bilingual report highlighting options for development to include:
• Existing key public rights of way, NRW-managed permissive routes, links to communities within 2 miles of key fen sites including a condition survey.
• Community engagement (linking with CCM’s community engagement lead) exploring which current routes do people use and what for, how far do they go, if we created a circular route would people use it? Etc.
• Relevant stakeholder engagement eg ramblers, community organisations, merched y wawr etc.
• Map landownership where relevant to proposed routes
• Suggest opportunities for ecological connectivity options (defragmentation) that would work alongside access connectivity.
• A costed scope for improvements to existing infrastructure, and potential new and/or linked routes
• Working to Sensory Trusts ‘By All Reasonable Means’ guidance and exploring potential for a best practice model for Wetland sites
By All Reasonable Means guidance Sensory Trust
Outdoor Accessibility Guidance, formerly Countryside for All, by Sensory Trust and Paths for All
• Identifying routes that would be accessible by users of adaptive equipment:
Natural Resources Wales / Trails for users of adaptive equipment
• All suggested work should meet the Quality Standards for National Trails and Wales Coastal Path:
https://cdn.cyfoethnaturiol.cymru/681873/nt-wcp-standards-2016-v31.pdf
• Identify routes that are accessible 12 months a year and include points of interest that will encourage better understanding of the corsydd sites
• Identify where additional infrastructure (e.g. bridges, gates, signage, parking) would be required
• Costed solutions for low maintenance, long-term infrastructure routes
• A matrix of potential options, with prioritised actions on a suggested timeline:
o Short term e.g. key links and loops that can be created through public rights of way upgrades and/or small highways
o Medium term e.g. active travel, infrastructure, signage
o Longer term e.g. rights of way creation orders, map modifications, diversions
• Identified links to other high profile promoted routes, heritage, greenspaces and urban centres e.g. Lôn Las Cefni, Coastal Path, Llyn Cefni, the Dingle, Oriel Môn, Mynydd Bodafon, Llangefni etc.
• A project risk register including unintended consequences of proposed routes or changes
• A plan for ongoing monitoring of routes including footfall counter placement
