Invitation to Tender - Ty Newydd Development Plan

II.1.6)

Description/object of the contract

Literature Wales is looking for a consultant or team of consultants to research and present a development plan for the Ty Newydd Writers’ Centre for 2013-16. Literature Wales is the national organisation for developing literature in Wales and one of its functions is to manage the Ty Newydd Writers’ Centre in Llanystumdwy, Gwynedd. Ty Newydd is Wales’ National Writers’ Centre and offers a wide variety of residential creative writing courses and experiences to people of all ages and backgrounds. It is an inspiring and nurturing environment for writing, a beautiful, historic house set in stunning surroundings.

Ty Newydd hosts an ongoing programme of writing courses for adults, writing retreats, schools courses and is also the home of Translators' House Wales. Literature Wales is keen to build on Ty Newydd Writers’ Centre’s successes so far and develop new audiences and visitors. The Centre’s visitors to date have tended to be from a similar demographic and background, and as the audience and potential reach for literature widens, Literature Wales sees a strong potential in diversifying the use of and audience for Ty Newydd.

In the face of the current financial challenges for the arts sector, Literature Wales wishes to ensure a strong future for the Centre which will attract extra visitors and income. Literature Wales’ vision is for the Centre to be placed firmly in the context of cultural tourism developments in Wales and beyond and to take full advantage of the history and location of the house.

At the same time as staying true to the original vision for a literary centre, Literature Wales wishes to widen and develop the appeal of Ty Newydd, by reassessing marketing, programming and other structures. This local centre with international reach can then become a hub for not only creative writing courses, but for a myriad of activities with literature at their core.
