Abstract

Beyer Lodge EMI Nursing Home is located at 65 Taylor Street, Gorton, Manchester and is a city-wide service. It is registered to provide accommodation with nursing care for 16 older people with a primary diagnosis of a complex functional mental health problem. The service will be operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including all bank and public holidays. The home was purpose built in the early 1990's, is on one level, and is totally wheelchair accessible. There are 16 single bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. There are three lounges and a dining room; one of the lounges is designated as a smoking area. The home is set in its own small grounds with a secure, well-maintained garden and has its own car park. Shops, public houses and other social areas and amenities are within a short walk of the home, which is close to public transport services. Beyer Lodge aims to provide a comprehensive package of person centred care for every resident from the commencement of the referral process through to discharge, with the aim of maximising the quality of life for people living at Beyer Lodge. The aim of delivering Person Centred Care is to ensure that all care delivery is individualised and meets the residents' requirements and needs in a way that maintains their individuality and encourages participation in the care planning process. The over arching aims of the service is to be a centre of excellence for older people with a complex functional mental health problem offering short-medium term health and social care support from a multi-disciplinary team of staff. It will provide appropriate care that will stabilise presenting mental health problems with the intention of then moving the person on to a more appropriate longer-term setting once their symptoms have improved and become more manageable. However given the complex needs of the client group it is acknowledged that although this is the aim it will not be an actuality for certain individual residents.
