Abstract

The Home Grown Homes (HGH) partnership wishes to commission an architect or design team/partnership to support the development of the Home Grown House; a unique and visionary two-bed affordable home built mostly from timber. We welcome expressions of interest from architectural practices and/or partnerships and organsiations which combine design, construction and engineering. We are not asking for design solutions at this stage as we are more interested in appointing an architect, partnership or organisation who will work closely with us through the design and construction phase of the project. We see the design and construction process as being collaborative with significant client input. This will include revisiting and amending the design brief. A Briefing Paper has been produced that provides the context, design criteria and an indicative timescale. The appointment of the successful candidate will be made following a two-part process: Part 1: Submission and assessment of an Expression of Interest (EOI). Applicants should submit an EOI together with supporting information. Refer to the two additional documents attached to this notice: 1) the EOI form; and 2) the Briefing Paper; before completing the actual EOI. Details of how we will assess the answers to each EOI are provided in Appendix 1 of the EOI form. The assessment will be made on the basis of the information and explanations given. Higher scores will be achieved by providing clear explanations supported by examples of experience and appropriate knowledge. We ask for additional evidence to support each EOI. It is up to each applicant to decide the form of evidence to submit which best shows how their organisation meets the criteria presented in the briefing paper. This must be presented digitally as it, and the completed EOI form, need to be emailed to james.moxey@woodknowledgewales.co.uk. After part 1, a shortlist will be drawn up of the top five submissions following a technical review. Part 2: Interviews will be arranged with shortlisted candidates to explore each submission in more detail and to provide shortlisted candidates an opportunity to discuss the project further. Contract terms including activity aligned to RIBA stages will also be discussed at the interview stage. A decision will be made following the interview process. The anticipated budget for this commission is £20,000 (excl. VAT). Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a costed submission. We are open to discussion on this fee with shortlisted candidates at interview if there is a strong argument that the project design requires more resourcing. It is our ambition that the chosen architect will work with us throughout the project and will be involved in all RIBA stages including stage 0. As such it is not possible to provide the usual kind of detail that an architect would expect to see in order to estimate costs, time commitment, resources needed, etc. With this in mind please provide a brief breakdown of your anticipated fee within the EOI. Your Expression of Interest plus attachments should be submitted electronically to James.moxey@woodknowledgewales.co.uk in PDF format demonstrating compliance with the criteria described in the briefing paper. Please limit each document sent to us to to 5mb. This must be submitted no later than 5pm on Friday the 26th of October 2018. No applications will be accepted after this date and time. Shortlisted candidates will be informed of the next stage of the process and any further requirements. We anticipate holding interviews in the week commencing 2nd December 2018. Woodknowledge Wales Ltd, as Lead Partner for the Home Grown Homes partnership is managing this process. Website Address: www.woodknowledgewales.co.uk
