Abstract

The key areas of the service to be provided are:

— assessment of disability and fitness for work, fitness to attend internal processes, including Hearings etc., fitness for training and for study,

— the occupational physician will provide independent, objective, and where possible evidence based advice to management and staff, please refer to Appendix A – Specification and KPIs – for full details of the services required under this contract,

— Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has approximately 2 500 staff and approximately 25 000 students at present. Of these approximately 3 500 students are enrolled on regulated training courses. In broad terms, the effective population served by the Occupational Health Unit is 6 000,

— screening and assessment services for healthcare, teaching, social care, microbiological and pharmacy undergraduates’ accounts for approximately 70 % of the occupational health unit’s workload,

— service’s for staff focus predominantly on absence management and, more recently, we have seen an increase in the requirement for the assessment of staff presenting with mental health problems in the workplace,

— LJMU Occupational Health records are held within a single well-organised secure and bespoke database, which was implemented in 2017,

— the unit is a nurse led, year round service, with administrative support. There is currently x1 senior occupational health nurse and 2 additional nurses. The unit operates from Liverpool city centre and the unit’s facilities are modern and well-appointed and have recently undergone some minor refurbishment works. Nursing and administrative support will all be provided by the University,

— the quality assurance programme in the occupational health unit is operational and all staff work to the safe, effective, quality, and occupational health service (SEQOHS) standards developed by the faculty of occupational medicine.

The University is seeking the services of a provider who is able to supply a minimum of an AFOM qualified occupational physician, who has experience of working with organisations with a similar business profile to LJMU. The contract period is for an initial period of 3 years, with the option to extend for one further year.

This procurement is under the light touch regime procedure.
