NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership Procurement Services, hosted by Velindre Trust is seeking to procure a one year contract (with a one year extension option) for Cardiac Patient Transport with between hospital site’s in South Wales. St John’s ambulance provide a transport service which can offer the appropriate level of first aid to support the safe transfer of cardiac patients diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome. Patients are transferred from UHL, Nevill Hall, Royal Glamorgan and Prince Charles hospital to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for treatment. Once recovered, patients are transferred back to their base hospital on the same day.

The procurement falls outside the scope of application of the Directive
Explanation:
The Cardiff and Vale Health Board’s current contract is due to expire September 2020. The Health Board need’s the specialised transport vehicles and staff supplied by St John’s Ambulance in order to safely provide a health service to cardiac patients. Patient’s need the specialist vehicles and staff in order to receive treatment amongst hospital sites in a reliable, safe manor. The staff are trained to a high standard if any incidents were to occur whilst the patient is in transit.
