Description of the goods or services required

Conwy County Borough Council wish to appoint a contractor for the below Works contract:

The current junction arrangement for vehicles travelling east on Mostyn Street (leaving Llandudno) is to give way to traffic on Vaughan Street, this results in a build-up of stationary traffic and on occasions “grid lock” within Llandudno. In addition the uncontrolled pedestrian crossing from the former North-western Hotel to the large traffic island within Mostyn Street (across Vaughan Street) hinders the flow of traffic either turning right into Llandudno or left onto Mostyn Broadway.

The proposed new layout will widen Vaughan Street to permit dedicated left / straight on and right turn lanes. Traffic leaving Llandudno will have priority, (thereby reducing the build-up of stationary traffic). The removal of the uncontrolled pedestrian crossing will aid traffic flows. The existing pedestrian crossings at the junction of Conway Road and Vaughan Street will remain. A new pedestrian crossing of Mostyn Broadway (opposite an access footway into the Parc Llandudno retail park) is to be provided.

The project includes improving the junction between Vaughan street and Mostyn Broadway by create a dedicated right lane to merge onto Mostyn Broadway. The works also consist of installing pedestrian crossing facilities and re-positioning of listed Lighting columns.

The works involve primarily of general site preparation, kerbing, installation of street lighting, signage and paving
