The NHS Shared Services Partnership hosted by Velindre are acting on behalf of the Cardiff & Vale University local Health Board who require the supply of DNA Maxwell Kits. These kits are specifically designed for use on the Maxwell 16 Instruments for automated extraction. They are used for DNA extraction from various sample types yielding high quality DNA. No other extraction chemistry is designed for use on the Maxwell 16 instrument.

The procurement falls outside the scope of application of the Directive
Explanation:
Laboratory Genetics owns 2 Maxwell instruments for extraction of variety of sample types. Extracted samples work really well on a lot of varied downstream testing platforms and the Health Board therefore have no scope at present in changing this technology. Promega are the supplier of extraction kits for use on the Maxwell instruments. No alternatives are available on the market.
