Abstract

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the UK's National Measurement Institute and is a world-leading centre of excellence in developing and applying the most accurate measurement standards, science, and technology available.

The NPL Quantum Materials team provides and conducts state-of-the-art measurement services and research across diverse fields of materials science, which involves the test and evaluation of structural, electronic, and optical properties of materials and associated devices.

We are extending our capability for delivering world-class metrology and research, and as part of this growth, the NPL requirement is for an optical cryostat for Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and microscopy at low temperature and high magnetic field.

The purpose is to provide a rich display of external stimuli and perturbations for hyperspectral, correlative, and quantitative Raman and photoluminescence microscopy via the low temperature and high magnetic field capabilities, for the manipulation and study of materials both from a fundamental and applied perspective. This means a significant expansion of the control over the combined parameter space (temperature – magnetic field – electric field – wavelength) for quantum electronic and optoelectronic material metrology.
