Abstract

Butetown Reservoir is a recreational reservoir located near Butetown, to the North of Rhymney. The site can be accessed from the south via the A469, or from the North via the A465 and A469.The area immediately surrounding the reservoir contains footpaths, with an informal footbridge that crosses a small watercourse feeding the reservoir. The reservoir is an asset within the ownership of Caerphilly County Borough Council, and is used for recreational purposes, predominantly by a local fishing club and members of the public for walking on the adjacent footpaths.A series of timber fishing platforms were erected at the reservoir, however these were removed by CCBC due to their poor condition, although it should be noted that dome of the timber piles supporting the former platforms remain.Replacement fishing platforms are required using a composite material with wood effect finish to achieve a 75-year design life, hence minimising ongoing maintenance costs and maximising longevity of the asset.

Procurement description

Butetown Reservoir is a recreational reservoir located near Butetown, to the North of Rhymney. The site can be accessed from the south via the A469, or from the North via the A465 and A469.

The area immediately surrounding the reservoir contains footpaths, with an informal footbridge that crosses a small watercourse feeding the reservoir.

The reservoir is an asset within the ownership of Caerphilly County Borough Council, and is used for recreational purposes, predominantly by a local fishing club and members of the public for walking on the adjacent footpaths.

A series of timber fishing platforms were erected at the reservoir, however these were removed by CCBC due to their poor condition, although it should be noted that dome of the timber piles supporting the former platforms remain.

Replacement fishing platforms are required using a composite material with wood effect finish to achieve a 75-year design life, hence minimising ongoing maintenance costs and maximising longevity of the asset.
