The Wakefield MSK Service was established to provide timely physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation support to employees across the Wakefield Health and Social Care Partnership who do not currently have access to NHS Occupational Health MSK services. The service supports staff experiencing musculoskeletal conditions that may otherwise result in prolonged sickness absence, reduced productivity or delayed return to work. Continuity of service provision was required. Due to the late notice of the funding, a decision was made to extend the pilot of this service and allow time for a service review to be conducted to inform future commissioning decisions.

This contract has been awarded under the urgent circumstances provision of the Provider Selection Regime (PSR). This contract has been awarded under the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023. For the avoidance of doubt, the provisions of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and Procurement Act 2023 do not apply to this award.<br/><br/>The award was required to ensure continuity of a specialist fast-track musculoskeletal service supporting employees across the Wakefield Health and Social Care Partnership. Physio Med Limited was already delivering the service and had an established referral pathway, reporting framework and operational arrangements in place. Delaying contractual arrangements whilst undertaking a full provider selection process would have risked disruption to the service and delayed access to physiotherapy support for eligible employees requiring assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.
