Specification for structural roof enhancement in order for solar panel installation

Description of the goods or services required

The tender is to reinforce designated barn roofs on Trenewydd and Penysgwarn farms in order to accommodate the addition of solar

panels. This is part of a staged project led by Ynni Bro Rhian in conjunction with the farms, associated landowners and external governmental funding to enhance the provision of renewable energy within the Llanrhian community.

Key requirements

a. Trenewydd

Two barn roofs, one with 6 spans and one with 7 spans. Only the south facing

side of the roofs require to be reinforced (PV panels will not be added

elsewhere).

Augment existing 75x175 mm C24 purlins (4.6m span) with 50x175 mm C24

timber beam purlins.

b. Penysgwarn

Two buildings; Building 1 with 7 short/3 long spans, Building 2 with 7 short/1 long

spans. Only the south facing side of the roofs require to be reinforced (PV panels will not be added elsewhere).

Augment the longer span (6.0 m span) existing 75x200 mm C24 timber purlins with additional 75x200 mm C24 timber purlins.

Augment the shorter span (4.6m span) with 50x175 mm C24 timber purlins.

For both locations

Fitting options are;

(1) Gluing and screwing purlins together; screws should be installed

at 200mm centres, or

(2) Purlins can be bolted together with M12 bolts at 300mm staggered

centres.

It is highly recommended that a site visit to both locations is conducted

prior to tendering. Visits can be arranged via tenders@ynnibrorhian.cymru

The contractor must check all site dimensions for proposed structural elements, steel beams and/or columns.

Detailed structural calculations and design drawing are available on request for each location and are to be followed by the selected contractor.

Each bidder is to provide;

A quote for labour only to complete the work at both sites, and

A separate quote for labour, material handling equipment, all

materials and fittings to complete the work at both sites.

A quote for price, payment terms, lead time on materials and

availability of labour to do the work.
