Abstract

The Cardiff University Biobank requires Laboratory Information Management Software to aid with the running of the facility. This software will be used for inventory control of the samples and the data the biobank holds. The system will need to track the samples stored and distributed from the facility and to record consent, processing, demographic and clinical information. The software will be required to deal with a large volume of samples and all associated information. Any software will need to have the ability to deal with stringent security, data confidentiality and the regulatory and legal requirements dictated by human tissue legislation. The University preference is to host the software on a Virtual Machine (VM) within the Institution’s current network and server infrastructure without requiring any changes to our current operational configuration. The software installed, configured and set to use on hardware for the benefit of end users shall be considered to be the system. Within this document software and system may be used interchangeably. The Biobank will initially have 6 members of staff requiring full access to any software with others needing more limited access. The biobank requires the software to be allowed to grow from this point as the biobank expands and more users are requiring access to the software. In the proposal the University is willing to consider optional software, as long as it is clear that it is optional and is fully but separately costed. If you do not identify a product as optional, the University will assume it will be delivered as part of the core price.
