Description of the contract
Wrexham County Borough Council invites tenders from suitably experienced and qualified Funeral Directors for the Provision of Funerals. The majority of the funerals to be provided are a result of the Councils responsibilities under Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984, however there may be additional funeral requirements that need fulfilling.
Section 46 of the Public Health (Control of Diseases) Act 1984, places a statutory duty on local authorities to make arrangements for funerals for those people who die or are found dead within the Authority’s administrative area, where no other suitable arrangements have been or are being made. Examples include:
A) Where the deceased has no estate, no known relatives, executor, close friends or anybody willing to take responsibility for the funeral arrangements;
B) Where the deceased has an estate, but no relatives, executor, close friends or anybody else willing to take responsibility for the funeral arrangements;
C) Where the deceased has relatives, but they refuse to take on responsibility for the funeral arrangements
Please note that the above is not an exhaustive list of when funerals services will be required through the proposed contract.
Full details of the funeral requirements can be found within the tender documentation.
