Description of the contract
The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, hosted by Velindre NHS Trust are acting on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board who sought to award a contract for the free of charge provision of a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) Advice Service.
The MTC at UHW plays a significant role within the South Wales Major Trauma Network (SWTN) providing highly specialised services for seriously injured patients from South Wales, West Wales and South Powys. The Major Trauma Service (MTS) in the MTC delivers care in line with the NHS England national service specification for major trauma to both improve the chance of survival and reduce the risk of long-term disability from major trauma for both adults and children.
Services are available 24/7, for individuals who have suffered major trauma in the following Health Board areas: Aneurin Bevan UHB (ABUHB), Swansea Bay UHB (SBUHB), Cardiff & Vale (CVUHB), Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB (CTMUHB), Hywel Dda UHB (HDUHB) and Powys Teaching HB (PTHB). As the single MTC for the region, co-ordination and collaboration with pre-hospital services including Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WAST), the Emergency Medical Retrieval & Transfer Service (EMRTS) and Wales & West Acute Transfers for Children (WATCh), and Trauma Units (TUs) across the region, is required to ensure that the service model developed meets the service standards.
The provision of practical, legal and financial advice for patients and their families/ carers following life changing trauma is now increasingly well-established within MTCs in regional trauma networks across the UK.
CVUHB, which is responsible for the MTC at UHW, and serves the SWTN, invites suitably qualified and experienced organisations to submit a proposal for the provision of a major trauma advice service and to explain how it would work in practice. Requirements for the service are detailed in the tender pack which can be accessed via the Bravo Solutions portal.
