Abstract

Tech Tyfu Scale to Success will build on the successes, opportunities and results of the Tech Tyfu pilot scheme to embed vertical farming into the Welsh economy. It will pioneer the use of vertical farming and develop sustainable supply chains for vertically farmed produce. The project will grow high value crops which are of increasing demand locally and in restaurants but are not being grown commercially in the area. The project will develop these into self-sustaining supply chains. This project will both offer growers opportunities to develop skills in collaborative growing and will facilitate the upscaling of equipment necessary to permanently establish themselves as growers and improve business resilience. This contract relates to the provision of this second feature. Growers who have participated in the Tech Tyfu pilot project will be the first to be offered the opportunity to design and build new vertical farming infrastructure to increase capacity of their supply chains, and develop self-sustaining, long term routes to market. This contract relates to the designing and building of these new vertical farming systems. This is an ambitious and multi-facetted project, and will require ongoing technical support from a suitable design engineer with prior experience of designing and building vertical farming systems to carry out the following: • Work with project staff and growers to design concepts for new vertical farming systems • Visit sites and farms to determine details and requirements for new infrastructure / new vertical farming systems • Work with Tech Tyfu staff to procure the necessary materials for proposed infrastructure / new vertical farming systems • Work with Tech Tyfu staff to construct and install the new infrastructure / new vertical farming systems Tenders are invited from suitably qualified design engineers, companies or sole traders with prior experience in designing and building vertical farming units to commercial standard. Due to the clients this contract will work with, the ability to speak fluent Welsh is essential for this tender.
