Description of the contract
This contract for Mechanical and Electrical Works at OpTIC Centre – St Asaph was awarded following an open procedure advertised under contract notice AS/PM/220524, published on Sell2Wales and the Find a Tender Service on 22 May 2024.
The project is delivered as part of the North Wales Growth Deal (now Ambition North Wales), a partnership between the public and private sectors supported by funding from UK Government and Welsh Government.
The OpTIC Centre is a fully occupied and operational centre providing optical polishing and metrology activities, together with specialist laboratory space for laser measurement, coatings and allied activities. The building also accommodates University teaching provision for nursing and allied health professions, 28 business incubation units, and conference, catering and meeting facilities.
The scope of the works as tendered comprised:
Section 1 — Metrology Laboratory: complete replacement of ceilings and lighting, and installation of a new ventilation system meeting performance standards for temperature, humidity and low velocity airflow, together with new partitions and interlock doors.
Section 2 — Optical Laboratories: replacement of lighting and associated finishes to upgrade the laboratories and reduce energy consumption.
Section 3 — Small and large polishing facilities: fit-out of a low level area with ceilings, partitions and lighting to create a functional laboratory area; upgrade of ventilation equipment and lighting serving the main polishing laboratory.
Support activities: renewal of BMS computer and software, updated to incorporate new layouts, equipment and controls.
