Abstract

Frân Wen, one of Wales’ most prestigious theatre companies for young people, is planning to convert the Grade II listed, St Mary’s Church in Bangor, into a vital new centre for its work across North West of Wales. The building is located within an extensive 6000m2 wooded site located in a prime city central location providing excellent access and transport links. St Mary’s Church was built in approximately 1860 and offers a space of approximately 550m2 of floor space in its present layout. The building has been vacant for a number of years and in deteriorating condition. Frân Wen plan to renovate of this important building and conversion into a purpose-built creative hub for young people. This would include office space, performance areas, small enterprise pods, digital studio, gathering spaces, open spaces to include gallery and opportunity for various pop-ups and work stations. The design phase of the proposed Nyth project has commenced and in preparation for the main construction project Frân Wen require a small package of works to be undertaken including some minor building works, clearing of the interior of the building and some minor site clearance works.
