Abstract
The proposed development at the site involves the construction of a new 3.5km upgrade to the existing A40 highway. The upgrade scheme will include sections of online and offline widening, including new earthwork embankments, significant cuttings and a new overbridge to maintain a current access road.
The main ground investigation for the scheme was undertaken in April 2016. However, various sections of the proposed alignment were not accessible during Welsh Government A40 Llanddewi Velfrey to Penblewin main ground investigation, and as a result particular features were not investigated. This supplementary ground investigation is proposed to specifically target the previously un-investigated locations, and locations where significant uncertainty of underlying ground conditions have been identified. The purpose of the investigation is for geotechnical and geo-environmental purposes.
