Description of the contract
The Works comprise of ground investigations for the proposed dualling of the A465 Trunk Road between Dowlais and Hirwaun.
The investigation comprises a combined geotechnical, geo-environmental and groundwater investigation. The scope of the investigation shall include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
- Hand excavated inspection pits to confirm the absence of services;
- Boreholes drilled using both cable percussion and sonic drilling techniques in the superficial deposits followed by rotary drilling in rock.
- Enabling works including construction of temporary access to borehole locations;
- In situ (SPT) testing within boreholes;
- Installation of Gas & Groundwater monitoring standpipes;
- Logging of all boreholes and inspection pits.
- Collection of soil and rock samples for Geotechnical testing;
- Collection of soil, rock and water samples for contamination testing;
- Geophysical survey of the Bryn Cartref landfill using a combination of Electromagnetic conductivity and resistivity/seismic profiling;
- Clearance of potential UXO using specialist down-hole magnetometry techniques;
- Geodetic surveying of all exploratory hole locations; and
- Factual reporting to be produced by the Contractor upon completion of site works and laboratory testing, including provision of digital data in AGS format.
