EIP Ammonia in poultry systems

The Operational Group wishes to recruit a suitably qualified professional with specialist knowledge of the broiler chicken sector and environmental impacts to provide technical input and assist in the delivery of this innovative project.

The project will measure ammonia emissions from conventional broiler systems with biomass heating in four houses over two farms. On each farm, the existing (control) system will be compared with the use of 3 different additives intended to reduce ammonia emissions. Thus the project will be run over three cycles. The project will also compare bird welfare and performance (physical and economic) data with a view to identifying best practice for the industry moving forward.
