Abstract

Applicants are invited to tender for the development of a package of research systems at CSAR, Swansea University. This request relates to the specialist equipment required as part of the project development. CSAR requires the design, supply and installation of two self-contained recirculation aquaculture systems (Life support system) and tanks (as specified) used for the purpose of academic research with aquatic species. The systems will be used as part of a multi-trophic, de-coupled aquaponics/ algal research programme and will be housed in a single laboratory adjacent to a research outbuilding. The initial target species will be tilapia, however, it is anticipated that the systems be designed to support multiple species for flexible future use (temperate, tropical, saltwater and freshwater). A summary of system loading capabilities for Tilapia, Salmon, Sea Bass and Sea Bream would be desirable. Environmental lighting control (time and light intensity) will be required in the laboratory. System controls must be able to send alarm messages (to a mobile phone) to alert facility staff of the location and type of fault. The following parameters should be monitored and alarmed (to be viewed locally and remotely) pH, oxygen, temperature, critical levels, pump status (failure). Room layout is given for the determination of space available for tanks and LSS (please contact the University via the eTender portal for any proposed modification to the suggested layout). A walk-way between the two systems should be maintained at 1200mm. See Technical Documents for full Works package information.
