Description of the contract
AC-NMW require the help of a specialist to conduct a blended approach of desk-based research and physical audits at each of the sites so that we can establish a baseline of our activities and energy use. This will enable us to change our operating model and areas directly under our control to reduce carbon emissions and create a carbon management plan to help reduce ongoing carbon emissions across Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.
The overarching deliverables are:
1. A report that identifies our carbon status and provide baseline data to inform us of our total carbon emissions across the organisation including:
i. Direct emissions that occur from sources that are owned or controlled by the organisation, for example emissions from combustion in owned or controlled boilers, furnaces, vehicles
ii. Emissions from the generation of purchased electricity consumed by the organisation
iii. All other indirect emissions which are a consequence of the activities of the organisation but occur from sources not owned or controlled by the organisation, for example, water, waste, business travel, commuting, exhibitions and procurement.
iv. Assess the carbon capture and storage that comes from the careful management of the extensive Museum land holdings.
2. Provide recommendations that build on our previous feasibility studies and identify areas for improvements in relation to decarbonisation whether in plant, equipment, general operation / operating model and user behaviour and to report these opportunities to AC-NMW on a regular basis. Agile project methodology with regular reporting to enable us to respond quickly to any carbon reduction improvement opportunities in the 21/22 financial year. Recommendations to take account of potential implementations across the organisation’s estate, operations and functions, including commercial services like our cafes and shops, to capture a whole organisational picture but also where appropriate on a site-specific basis. Any recommendations provided should be feasible in relation to planning / listed building status, ROI and reduction of carbon emissions in real terms.
3. Provide a framework and outline structure of what should be included in AC-NMW’s long term Carbon Management Plan for short, medium and long-term delivery.
