Abstract

This tender invites bidders to submit proposals to undertake an evaluation of the 'Active Education Beyond the School Day' initiative incorporating; an existing research paper, a data capture analysis and monitoring and evaluation of the pilot schools, between August 2021 to July 2022. The overall objectives of the Active Education beyond the School Day initiative are to understand: • What enables a school to become an active education setting? • What is the impact of a school becoming an active education setting? o The impact it has on the vision for sport and sport Wales strategy o The impact it has on physical activity levels* o The impact it has on education priorities • What can ensure the active education approach becomes sustainable and embedded into school development plans? (*To improve people’s health and well-being by increasing the number of people enjoying sport and physical activity, with the priority target group being young people, families and adults living within deprived communities). The specific evaluation objectives are: • To capture the learning from the pilot schools/settings on what works and what doesn’t and to establish the reasoning behind key successes and challenges • To align the evidence of best practice and learning from the pilot schools to formulate recommendations for future projects and policy • To ensure that the evaluation and learning is integral to the work and that best practice is shared • Evaluate the success of the initiative and recommend actions to roll out the programme at scale pan Wales • Develop case studies and emerging practice • Review the cost of projects in a cost benefits analysis – it is value for money? • To help address some of the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic and showcase if this initiative has contributed to the reversal of any of these impacts, through a robust evidence base.
