Abstract

The project is entitled Towyn to Kinmel Bay Cycle Link The works were to include, but not limited to:- a) General site clearance and preparation b) Traffic Management c) Earthworks d) Kerbing e) Paving f) Road markings / signage g) Drainage The purpose of the proposed Towyn to Kinmel Bay Cycle Link Scheme was to provide cyclists with a safe off-carriageway cycle route, complying with Active Travel Wales guidance, which will link the end of an existing route to Towyn Centre through Towyn Park. The proposed works comprised the widening of an existing footway/cycleway along A548 Towyn Road to provide a 4m wide shared route. Existing park paths were to be planed out and reconstructed as 3m wide paths. These works included the associated relocation of street furniture and new signage. Roundabouts were proposed to differentiate the movements of cyclists and pedestrians at the junctions on the park paths. A new 3m wide footway/cycleway facility running along the eastern boundary of the park was to be constructed to connect Towyn Park to Gors Road, via Kinmel Way. The new cycleway design included the provision of drainage pipes with 225mm internal diameter to avoid severance of an existing over-ground run off path. The new path was to run parallel to an existing drainage channel with a 5m wide offset to provide maintenance access. The existing Gors Road and Kinmel Way junction was to be raised for the construction of a speed table for traffic calming. This work included raising ironwork and providing new road markings and road signs.
