Abstract

Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) has undertaken a strategic review of commissioned health professional education and training across NHS Wales. HEIW commissions both pre-registration and post-registration qualifications for the NHS Wales workforce. HEIW identified a requirement to commission critical care education. This education will support the national upskilling of existing health professionals to meet the recommendation of the Welsh Government’s Task and Finish Group on Critical Care (2019) that critical care education and opportunities are explored to improve retention of current staff. In addition, this education will meet the Guidelines for the Provision of Intensive Care Services (GPICS), Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) and the Intensive Care Society (ICS) CPV: 80000000, 80000000, 80300000, 80000000, 80300000, 80000000, 80300000.
