Abstract

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, hosted by Velindre NHS Trust are acting on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board who are seeking to award a contract for a Fathers Dedicated Support Service Pilot. Cardiff and Vale UHB are one of the partners involved in the Early Years Transformation and Integration Programme. A recent report commissioned as part of this programme has given Cardiff and Vale an overview of progress within the area of Peri-Natal Infant Mental Health and Parent Infant Relationships. This pilot responds to one of the areas of ‘gaps’ in support noted as part of that report. Additional short-term capacity within the health and social care workforce has been supported, alongside additional training and skill building with the existing staff teams. This pilot will provide an opportunity to work with a group of citizens with new ways of working, that will help us understand what works (or what doesn’t work) for this group of people. Cardiff and Vale UHB would like to procure a provider to deliver a service to fathers who are identified as needing additional support during the peri-natal period following birth. There is a current gap in support services across the region for this group of people which has been highlighted in an independent report recently completed for the region. The Health Board would like a provider to deliver a pilot approach for just under 3 months to learn what good support looks like for this group of people, to assist us in learning what our future support offer might look like. The service will; a) Collaborate with existing services b) Work with fathers c) Deliver training d) Facilitate groups e) Expertly assess referrals and offer tailored support
