Abstract

A key objective of Natural Resource Management is ensuring the sustainability and optimisation of Ecosystem Services. Marine and coastal areas support a range of important ecosystem services ranging from the flood and erosion protection provided by coastal habitats such as salt marsh and sand dunes, to the provision of fish for food and recreation. However, there remains limited data in Wales on both a) the value of the current services provided by the marine and coastal environment, and b) our understanding of the way the functioning of these ecosystems supports the delivery of key services. This project will both provide some local data in relation to a) above, and also support b) by focussing on how processes within the Dyfi estuary system support fisheries within the estuary and beyond. The information collected within this project will be used to inform decision making on the management of natural resources, integrating with, and informing, other planning processes - WFD, Marine planning, Bathing Waters.
