Abstract

Flow through hospitals is essential to providing good patient care. Patient experience, staff experience and standards of care are impacted when flow reduces. Managing unscheduled care is a key part of the health care system; it can have a significant impact on health outcomes and can absorb large amounts of staff time. A highly complex process and there are an array of factors at play which impact on patient flow which affects patient outcomes and frustrated staff. Challenges to the need to improve patient flow in hospitals is commonplace. Powys THB and Powys County Council leaders have recognised that improving the flow of service users/patients, information and resources within and between health and social care organisations has a crucial role to play in improving outcomes, efficiency of services and patients’ experience of care.
