Abstract

Whole economy figures on gender pay gaps mask different patterns of inequality in sectors, industries and workplaces. It is at the level of the workplace, in various types of employment where changes can be made, and these changes in turn lead to greater equity overall. To this end, the School of Sciences at Cardiff University is working directly with a number of employers, medium and large size, in the public and private sectors, to analyse their workforce data on occupation, job, grade and employment type (full time/part time) and pay. Following this, new, fairer and more efficient ways of organising work will be tested (for example, finding and implementing improvements to the ‘default’ use of low hours part time contracts in caring, cleaning, clerical jobs - jobs traditionally viewed as ‘women’s work’, or introducing measures to enable women’s progression). This tender relates to undertaking this change management work, proposing, guiding and working with managers from the case study organisations to test/ trial and implement change.
